Test Sheet — Checklist Before We Arrive On Site
To achieve the best possible result on your air tightness test, please ensure all of the following items are completed before our engineer arrives on site. Failure to prepare adequately may affect the test result and could result in additional charges.
Items to Complete Before the Test
- All external doors closed and fully fitted
- All external windows closed and fully fitted
- All internal doors open
- All drainage traps filled with water
- Loft access hatch shut
- Fireplaces sealed / flues blocked
- All extract ventilation sealed — kitchen, bathroom etc. (use low-tack masking tape or gaffer tape)
- Trickle vents closed (not sealed)
- All builders work fully completed
- All sockets and light switches fitted
- All downlighters fitted
- All cracks or holes in the fabric of walls, floors or ceilings caulked or filled (see typical leakage areas below)
- Mains 240V electricity switched on
Do Not Seal These Items
- Seals to external doors
- Seals to windows or sills
- Seals to drains or sills
- Seals to trickle vents
- Seals to loft access
Important Notice
Each site visit includes multiple tests on the same dwelling to achieve the Design Air Permeability (DAP). The engineer’s site visit is allocated a maximum of 90 minutes. If the visit exceeds this time, a surcharge of £90 per hour will be applied.
Typical Areas of Leakage & Recommendations
- Around all supply and waste pipes at their entry or exit points through internal and external walls (behind bath panels, kitchen and bathroom sinks etc.)
- Boiler flue exit points through external walls
- Between skirting boards and the floor join — particularly in timber-frame construction where leakage often occurs from behind plasterboard
- Where plasterboard and exposed beams meet, especially in timber-frame dwellings
- Around flue plate fittings for log burners and solid fuel stoves
